EESY (Emanu-El Senior Youth) is our oldest youth group, open to teens from 8th through 12th grade. It is led by the teens themselves, through the elected EESY Youth Board. The elections are held in May and the elected are installed at the Temple Board Installation in June. In order to be elected you must have been a member of the youth group for a year and have chaired an event.
Each month EESY holds a General Membership Meeting and an event of some kind. In the membership meetings, EESY members review past events and discuss which events they would like to hold in the future. These can range from a chill movie night to a food tour in New York, or can be social actions events such as Midnight Run (an annual event to help clothe and feed the homeless in NYC). All events are decided on and run by EESY members.
In addition to the active role our teens take in the Temple Emanu-El community, EESY is a member of NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth). Our region of NFTY is called GER (Garden Empire Region) which encompasses ¾ of New Jersey as well as Rockland and Orange Counties in New York. EESY members are invited to attend multiple regional and/or national events during the year, including day events and overnighters. In the past, EESY has hosted NFTY-GER Homecoming and Regional Elections.
