Bar / Bat Mitzvah

Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a major milestone in the life of a Jewish teen and his/her family. At Temple Emanu-El, we celebrate B'nai Mitzvah as a community. Each Bar/Bat Mitzvah takes place during a congregational worship service, and is open to the entire community.
The congregation is encouraged to participate as we usher our youngsters into Jewish adulthood.

Our Bar/Bat Mitzvah curriculum is designed to strengthen Jewish identity and knowledge of Judaism among our teens, through ritual, learning, and community involvement.

Jewish learning is a life-long process. Therefore, we expect and encourage all of our B'nai Mitzvah at Temple Emanu-El to continue their education through the high school years. Our eighth, ninth, eleventh and twelfth graders participate in Hebrew High (Chai) School, a peer education program. In the tenth grade, we offer a special yearlong seminar with the Rabbi, which culminates in a Confirmation Service at Shavuot.
